Benin and Cameroon secured their passage into the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations following a goalless draw at the Ismailia Stadium.
Cameroon had chances to score but Ambroise Oyongo and captain Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting saw their efforts saved by Benin keeper Saturnin Allagbe in the first half. The rest of the match was played out at a low tempo with minimal chances.
Benin had their chances as well as former Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion midfielder Stephane Sessegnon struck a free-kick narrowly wide.
The Squirrels came to the match with one gameplan and that was to prevent Cameroon from scoring and they eventually did it with their outstanding defence against the Indomitable Lions who ended up second in Group F while Benin qualified as one of the best 3rd placed teams.
At the final whistle, Benin’s players bended their knees and kissed the ground in celebration.
Benin will now come up against Morocco while the defending champions Cameroon are set to play Nigeria in the AFCON 2019 round of 16.
