Lyon vs Reims Previews
Lyon’s bid for a three-match win streak was dashed by Lille, who eked out a 1-0 victory at Stade Pierre-Mauroy. Before that defeat, Lyon were impressive in two wins, 2-0 at Metz, and also 2-0 at home against Saint-Etienne.
Those back-to-back wins broke a three-game winless spell for Olympic Lyonnais in their last five league fixtures that also produced two home draws, 0-0 against visiting Amiens SC and 1-1 against visiting Strasbourg. The lone defeat of Rudi Garcia’s men was suffered at Paris-Saint Germain 4-2.
Reims are knocking on the doors of a top-four finish. The Red and Whites are at fifth with 41 points and are eight points behind fourth placers Lille.
David Guion’s men picked up their latest win 1-0 at home with striker El Bilal Toure lifting them to the full three points via a 37th-minute strike. Reims had another win 1-0 at home over visiting Rennes in their last five league games, whilst they also posted two draws, both 1-1 at Saint-Etienne and Monaco, respectively. The only defeat was 3-0 at Strasbourg.
The last time they crossed paths in Ligue 1, Reims and Olympic Lyonnais fought to a scoreless draw at Stade Auguste Delaune II, whilst an earlier clash held at Groupama Stadium, another 0-0 draw was forged.
Striker Moussa Dembele, who has netted 16 goals so far in the league, is expected to make amends for Olympic Lyonnais after failing to deliver against Lille in their latest fixture.

Lyon have been having a disappointing season in the league by their standards, where they sit in 7th place heading into this weekend’s games. They’re doing great in the Champions League, where they lead Juventus after the first leg, although their match due to be played later this week has been postponed, leaving them to focus fully on this league match.
Reims are having a terrific season, and they are 5th in the table. Their home form has been mediocre, but have gained a lot of away points this season. They have proven to be a tough side to break down; only 2 sides in the division have lost more matches than Reims, but they also have the most draws in the league.
Played in an empty stadium, the atmosphere will be strange, but we can see Reims getting at least a draw here.
