Portsmouth vs Arsenal Match Previews
Prior to this visit, Arsenal were booted out from the Europa League round-of-32 after Olympiakos Piraeu won the second-leg tie 2-1 after extra time at Emirates Stadium and won on away goals after a 2-2 aggregate.
Arsena; boss Mikel Arteta admitted that his men were in low morale following the aforementioned loss as reports said they will lose as much as 70 million pounds after their ousted in the first knockout round.
But the chance to rise again will see them pressed to do much, much better against Portsmouth. Arsenal, who have the most FA Cup trophies at 13, last won the title in 2017.
Besides that Europa League loss, Arsenal’s last five matches in all competitions also saw them win thrice, one whilst away, and draw once, also away.
LAST FIVE MATCHES
Portsmouth, the 2008 winners, have won four of their last five matches in all competitions, three of them at home in the League One Table where they are at present at third spot, thee points off leaders Rotherham United and two behind third-placed Coventry City. The only defeat by Portsmouth in that stretch was 1-0 at Fleetwood Town.
The last time they met, Portsmouth beat Arsenal 2-1 in the Football League Trophy Under-21 tournament held at Fratton Park.
Arsenal re now left to fight for silverware on just one tournament and a loss to a squad from a third-tier tournament would be unforgivable.
In the Premier League, the Gunners are in 10th spot and struggling to stay in that circle or better it. They will resume top-flight action following two successive wins at home.

Portsmouth vs Arsenal Prediction
Arsenal were sent crashing out of the Europa League early this week after a surprising loss at home at the hands of Olympiakos. It was a heartbreaking loss for Mikel Arteta’s side as they had an advantage coming into the 2nd leg, but only to have a last-minute goal ruin their run in Europe. This was also their first loss in the new year in all competitions.
League one side Portsmouth currently enjoy a 3rd place in the standings and are in close contention with the other top 2 teams in the league. They are not to be underestimated as they are on a 10-match winning streak at home, and haven’t loss a game at Fratton Park since September of last year
The Gunners definitely need to put their Europa exit behind them if they are to win this game as it is not one that should be taken lightly. Initial squad reports suggest that Ozil & Lacazette will be left out of the squad, so that would mean leading scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be the one leading the attack. Portsmouth will take the field ready and full of confidence – 13 wins in their last 15 games, knowing that they too can upset a team like Arsenal.
Porstmouth’s last win against Arsenal was in 1958, and although Arsenal will be desperate to redeem themselves, it seems like they will be tested once again. I find good value in the handicap here, and looks like the underdogs can cover.
