The celebrity athletes of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team won the 2019 ESPY Awards following their 2019 World Cup victory.
Hours after their ticker-tape parade in New York, Megan Rapino, Rose Lavelle, Alex Morgan and the rest of the stars headed to Microsoft Theatre California to accept their award.
Handing out the trophy is the renowned actress Sandra Bullock, who read the winners’ card and added her speech with, “All those in favor of equal pay say aye!” Her statement is in reference to what the National Team have all came hand in hand to battle with — equal pay for all women.
Carli Lloyd accepted the award with a gleaming look on her face, “Thank you to ESPN, all of our followers, supporters around the world… It’s been an incredible journey. Here’s to the next World Cup in another four years!”
Rapino quickly followed her epic speech with humor, “I’ve dropped the f-bomb on every stage I’ve been in on the last few days, so I’ll just spare you that.”
The U.S. Women’s National Team secured their World Cup title with a 2-0 win against the Netherlands. This marks America’s fourth title in the tournament.
